Painting miniature impressionist oils is an almost imperceptible action….like an unnoticed blink.  So different from the Zen inspired watercolor on tissue painting.  The paintings shown here are painted alla prima, no sketching or preparation other than priming the support with gesso…. they measure 2.5″ x 3.5″.  These are painted with my favorite palette knife…the same one I use for large 24″ x 36″ paintings….some of them are painted on canvas board, and some of them on cut to size pieces of, archival mat board….I often work on prepared mat board when painting on location, en plein air….it is lightweight, very easy to transport, the paint dries quickly, it’s acid free/archival, and very economical….See more of my work, big and small, at
